Careful at the Cookout...

Good morning, folks...  Yes, I am already checking up on you. The Cardio Challenge is up and running for the month of July.  It is only July 3rd, so I don't want you to miss out on your 240 minutes per week of cardio activity.  Remember, break it down however you need to make it work for you--30 minute sessions, 20 minute sessions, but GET IT DONE.  You will be glad you did and you will be a healthier you for doing it.  Get your little note book and keep track, weekly.  By keeping track you can see where you can improve, if you miss the mark.  Now, I got some bad news the other day from my doctor.  I have to work on some things for my own health,  so I am really pushing this cardio agenda, as well as, adjustments to my food intake lifestyle.  I told you in my last post, I am in this with you.  You are not alone!!!

The Fourth of July is a big day for cooking out and getting together with family and friends.  Be careful about what you are eating.  Enjoy, but do not overindulge.  Make some adjustments to your food intake.  Nope, it will not be easy, but it will not be the hardest thing you ever did in your life.  If you are like me, you LOVE a good bar-b-qued burger.  Go for it, but save a few calories by eliminating 1/2 of the bun--you thought I was going to say eliminate the bun totally, gotcha!   Try loading up on the chicken to fill you up.   Go slow on the mayonnaise laden salads, like potato salad, macaroni salad, and cole slaw.  Fill up on the veggies.  If you have to have cake/pie, stack the slice high with fresh fruit as a filler.  Then, my favorite, wine.   The newest favorite wine on the horizon is Moscato.  Actually, it's an "old school" thing that has become new again.  It is very high in sugar, which equates to high caloires.  Try filling your glass half full with a sprizter water, then pour your wine in the glass.   Try the lite beers, if you have to have one.

These are just a few suggestions from me to get through the holiday without worrying about overeating or packing in the high calorie foods.  If you really want to help yourself, get your cardio exercise done BEFORE you go to the celebration.  I am going to a 2-hr zumba/toning class.  Hope they don't have to call 911 during the session...  Smooches...
