Lifestyle Change? Now?

Hey Fam...  Are guys doing okay?  I sure hope so.  Let's talk...
Over the last 10 years, my weight has been up and down.  I'm in the zone and out of the zone.  It's working, it's not.  It seems I have never been able to put both exercise and eating healthy together.  What do I mean?  Well, I lost about 50 pounds once and that was strictly from dieting.  You know counting calories, no carbs, no alcohol, etc.  Then I gained some of it back.  One time I lost about 20 pounds.  It was a good loss but I was exercising like a fool, gaining muscle and losing fat, but I ate all the time.   I was hungry!  Yes, I gained some of it back, plus.  It seems I could never find that right balance.  Well, there comes a time, when you have to start fighting to lose EVERY pound, and NOW is my time.  Between my racing hormones, stress, lack of sleep (just to name a few things involved with living life) whatever, I think I have hit the wall.  But I need and want to get this right!!!

Trust me when I say, I know what to do.  I could surely right my own book--yes, RIGHT not WRITE--but I need some encouragement and comraderie to do this diet and exercise thing correctly and with longevity.  I have read the South Beach diet, the Dukan diet, the Atkins diet, The FatSmash diet, Lose 30 pounds in 30 Days diet, just to name a few.  I tried Weight Watchers, (I even bought the special food scale) but I wasn't ready to do those meetings.  I have paid $$$$ for a personal trainer, and did well (when I could afford it) but at the end of the day, this whole healthy weight loss combined with the working out thing is truly a mind-set if you are going to try to do them together.  What's the term?  Oh yea, "It's a life-style"...

So, here I go again...  Hey, if at first you don't succeed!!!  I'm just saying...  I have signed myself up for a 6-week "warrior camp".  This camp is defined as a "program of life reconstruction that will include emotional, physical, spiritual , and mental remodeling".   I guess you can call it a "life-style change".  Maybe?  This camp is going to include exercise classes--Zumba, Zumba toning, yoga, pilates all of this will allow for strenthening and flexibility, as well as cardio training.  There will be an individual counseling session, assessment sessions (weighing and measuring), nutrition advice, and a field trip to the grocery store.  Don't they know I LOVE THE GROCERY STORE?  WholeFoods is my favorite!  Ugh!!!  There will also be a weekly check-in with the director of the program, to insure that everyone is on the right track.  Maybe this is the encouragement and comraderie I am looking for.  Who knows?  We'll see.

During my 6-week journey I will be throwing a couple of challenges out there for YOU.  I need you all to stay encouraged and keep up with your exercising and healthy eating.  Remember, my favorite suggestion, change things up by 'trying a fruit or veggie' that you never had before.  You might just find a new snack you like.  At the end of this 6-week program, I will let you know where I am, how I have progressed, and prayerfully, I will be giving you some good news about my journey to a healthier me.   I plan to keep you posted on my successess and failures, along the way so make sure you keep up with this blog.
Let's go and get READY 4 HEALTHY!!!  SMOOCHES...

  1. Sasha, great read! I'm looking forward to following you on this journey. I will be watching. I'm on a journey myself (although a little different). Any way, I will pray for you along the way.

One quick suggestion, the life-style change will come when you change your heart. If you hate the journey and don't learn to love it, it won't work for you. A true life-style change will start in the heart. You have to want and love what you become. Accept the new you and don't look back.

  2. You make an awesome point. I am prayerful that being on this journey with others, although our final goals may be different, we can encourage each other and the life-style change will come as "my heart" warms up and accepts all I NEED TO DO. Oh, I already know, it will not be easy!!! There will be much prayer involved...LOL
