Good morning, Fam... How's life treating you? Well, I am still in my get healthier, stay healthy mode. I am trying to dump these extra pounds I am lugging around, but it's a struggle. Down 1 pound up 1 pound. Down 2 pounds, up 1 pound... Frustrating, is what I call it. Oh well, I keep pressing on.
Well, you know Turkey day is just a few days away. Over the past few days, I have read or skimmed through many articles for how to get through the Thanksgiving Holiday without overeating or killing your diet. Here are some articles that I read through, "10 Tips for a Thinner Thanksgiving", "Stuff the Bird, Not Yourself", "52 Healthy eating Tips for Thanksgiving", "7 Ways To Curb Weight Gain Over Thanksgiving", "7 Diet-Unfriendly Dishes". I don't know about you, but I don't want to discuss 52 ways to do ANYTHING with anybody... I think we all have some thoughts about what NOT to do during the Holiday, if (I repeat, if) we are trying to watch our waistlines.
The Calorie Control Council says that the average American may consume more than 4,500 calories and 229 grams of fat from snacking and eating a traditional holiday dinner with turkey and the trimmings, and that doesn't even include breakfast or the late snacking that goes on in the evening. That seems like a lot of eating. Don't you think so? That's about 2-1/2 times the average daily calorie intake. May I suggest a few things to you? Don't answer, I am going to tell you whether you like it or not. First of all, go slow on the alcoholic beverages. Remember to load up on veggies first, then go for the hard stuff like mac and cheese, potato salad, sweet potato casserole with marshmallow topping. Eat all the meat you want, as long as it's not fried and you don't eat the skin. Go easy on the gravy--that should be easy for me, I don't really like it. Lastly, one slice of pie or cake is enough. There IS no need to throw back 5 slices...
Look!!! Let's eat, it's Thanksgiving and only happens once a year. Think twice before you throw down on ALL the good food coming your way. Then PLAN and DO get some exercise on that day or the next day. I have a 90 minute glutes/guts/zumba session planned for the day after Thanksgiving. What about you??? Enjoy and most importantly, be THANKFUL for the little things that life has to offer... SMOOCHES...
