When Injury comes our way... Pray...

Good afternoon, Family...  Yes, I have fallen again, and I have not been able to get up.  I recently fell down the steps.  Yes, a total of 4 steps, but I fell and fell HARD!!!...  The whole right side of my back has been painful.  I haven't been able to sleep on my right side, use my right side to push or pull and am now seeing major bruising...  I did go get it checked out just to make sure I didn't break bones or injury a kidney.  I got the stamp of approval that all was okay, but I was told by the Doctor that I would be feeling some discomfort for probably the next 3-4 weeks...  WHAT???  Needless to say, I have been sidelined because of this injury and workouts, as well as, heavy lifting was off limits per the Doctor's orders.  When injury comes your way, pray that the healing starts immediately...

So, I did a little research as to what to do when an injury hits home.  My injury had nothing to do with working out, but some of us do get injuries due to our workouts.  Beginners who start workouts tend to have injuries involving the knees and ankles especially if they are overweight (isn't that why we are working out?) .  It seems the more out of shape you are, the more likely it is that you will have an injury.  But, Medicine.net states that even if you are in shape, overuse of one set of muscles may still cause problems.

There is a difference between PAIN and SORENESS.  If you feel pain during a workout you should STOP immediately...  If the pain begins when you do the same motion again it is, more than likely, an injury.   The suggestion is to rest for a day.  Soreness will usually go away if you continue working out.

Healing from an injury can take weeks.   Nutrition is important during this time.  Some foods promote inflammation so be careful.  Bodybuilding.com states that fried foods, processed white flour, eggplant, cayenne, tomatoes, potates, and hot peppers are on that list of foods that can cause inflammation.   Raw veggies  and fresh fruit and juices have enzymes and vitamins that can aide in the healing process.  So fresh fruit and veggies it is!!!

Now comes time for common sense.  Do NOT do any activity that involves the injured part of your body.  Trust me, if your injury is deep enough, when you try to do your regular activity, you will find out whether or not you should continue.  I hurt the right side of my back and I found out that I could not do anything that utilized those muscles...Spasms, took my breath away, made me just want to stop and cry--yep, it was talking to Me.   Listen to your body and follow whatever your doctor tells you to do.

When you feel you are ready to start back exercising, EASE into it.  Do not go ALL out your first time out.  You have to remember the warm up and stretch...  Vary that workout.  Do not kill the few good muscles you have!!!  Remember to drink plenty of water, dress appropriately (if it's winter and you are working out outside, cover up and stay warm)...  DO NOT be afraid to rest... If you need a day or two, TAKE IT...Let your body heal, so you can go FULL force on THE NEXT workout!!!

Remember, your muscles are responsible for every single movement your body makes.  If your muscle is NOT ready.  Neither are YOU!!!   Smooches...
