Not Your Mama's Salt

Good afternoon, Family...  Just dropping by to talk to you about an OLDE TYME product that has been used for years for many things.  My grandmother was the first person to introduce me to this miracle working product packaged in a milk carton.  It was used off and on--more off--by my family over the years.  As I did my research on this product, I realized that I could use this product daily in some way, shape, or form.  What am I going on about?  EPSOM SALT!!!

Funny, but Epsom salt is not a salt at all.  It is actually a pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate.  It was named for a bitter saline spring at Epsom in Surrey, England.  Magnesium has a lot of effects on various enzymes in the body.  It can also help with muscle and nerve functions, as well as inflammation.  Sulfates help with the absorption of nutrients and the flushing of toxins.  So, when you combine the magnesium and sulfate compounds you can come up with a "do everything for what you need" product.  It's like magic!!!

Take a look at the possibilities as listed on Preparedness Mama website:  http://preparednessmama.com/25-uses-for-epsom-salts/.   All I know is, I have had one heck of a pain on the left side of my back.  I discovered it when I was at a Zumba class attempting to do a side bend and almost fainted from the pain.  I'm thinking I pulled something in my back while dragging bags of topsoil and mulch in my effort to do my gardening.  I had my hubby reluctantly rub analgesic balm on the spot, but it did not touch the pain.  He actually suggested EPSOM SALT (I didn't even know we had any in the house).  Anywho, I took a 20 minute soak in a tub filled with hot water and about 1 cup of Epsom salt.  When I got out of that tub, I immediately felt relief.  No, the pain was not totally gone, but can I tell you my back felt so much better.

Now, because of my profession, I already knew that magnesium sulfate can be used as a laxative, and is vital in heart health, and is effective in regulation of insulin levels, but it is great for removing splinters, relieving gout discomfort, exfoliating the skin, getting rid of blackheads, soothing itchy, burning skin,  cleaning bathroom tiles, removing detergent buildup in your washing machines and one of my favorites, fertilizing your garden just to name a few possibilities.  I even found articles suggesting that Epsom salt baths 3-7 days a week can aid in weight loss, but I found nothing really scientific to back that plan up. I think if it were that simple many a person would be bathing in epsom salt daily instead of dieting and working out.   Okay, at least I would bathe in it and eliminate all this dang dieting and sweating.  I suggest you check out www.epsonsaltcouncil.org  on how to properly use EPSOM SALT.  It is an inexpensive way to take care of a multitude of problems.
