Good Afternoon, Family... This Blog was created with HEALTH in mind. I have been spending quite a bit of time discussing weight loss and food options because like me, I have quite a few family members and friends that are overweight and most of us could drop a pound or three. But, let's focus on our healthcare. True, being overweight can cause some problems with diabetes, heart health, and high blood pressure, but lifestyle, age and family history can contribute to our problems as well. Everyone needs to stay on top of their "health" in the sense of check-ups. First and foremost, if something doesn't feel or look right, go to the doctor and get it checked out. Second, keep up with your annual check-ups. Ladies, have you had your annual mammogram, pap smear/pelvic exam? Is it time for your colonoscpy? Smokers, have you had a chest xray? When was the last time you had your eyes examined? Fellas, is it time for a prostate exam? Are you up on your immunizations? How's that cholesterol?
My Family history includes members who have or have had, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, cardiovascular issues, lupus, pulmonary issues, and cancer of the thyroid, breast, kidney, prostate, and lung. Not to put them on blast, but the medical issues I just mentioned are for 2 generations only!!! Some medical maladies can be prevented, some you just have to live with. But you can live a healthier lifestyle and keep these medical problems under control and weight management and healthier eating and living can help.
Well, it's April 25th and I didn't meet my goal. I was short by 2 pounds. I can say that I am dissappointed, but I am not surprised. I admit, I SHOULD have given it my all, but I AM NOT giving up on my road to living and being healthier. That being said, I am up for my next challenge. My new Goal Date is May 18th. My daughter graduates from Morgan State University on May 19th. I want to be another 8 pounds lighter. I want to look GOOD walking into that stadium and those extra 8 pounds should help me. What am I going to do differently? Well, I have to cut back on the late night nightcaps (yes, alcohol) and I am going to increase my intensity in my cardio workouts. So, let's do this!!! Keep me encouraged people....Smooches
I have been doing my Walking DVD's with Leslie, and starting Friday I will be doing my Turbo Jam with Chalene Johnson. I am thinking of a monthly challenge to do like maybe 3100 squats for the month of May !!
