Run, Run, Run

Good morning, Fam...  Today, the city of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania will be the host to a major event, The Blue Cross/Blue Shield Broad Street Run.  This 75 year old event is run on a 10 mile course that starts at the northern part of Broad street at Central High School and ends at the southern end of Broad Street at the Philadelphia Naval Yard.  This course is named one of the fastest 10-mile courses in the country by Runner's World.

Runners can celebrate their "personal triumph along Broad Street by helping the American Cancer Society(ACS) beat cancer" by obtaining sponsors to support them in their participation in this event by making donations.  I made a donation toward the ACS via my cousin, Steven Thornton.  He has been faithfully training for this event.  Steven participated in this event last year, but this year decided to dedicate his run to our Uncle Arnold "Buddy" Thornton.

I asked Steven if he was "ready" and of course, his response was, "yes, I am ready because I've been training for months".  He did state that he felt better prepared mentally for the run this year.  (Now, as much as I love running, I could mentally prepared ALL DAY, but my old knees probably would still not be ready.)  Steven's thoughts on training for this is event were, "train a week for every mile. That's a 10 week plan ".

I asked Steven if he was worried about his safety in light of the recent Boston marathon bombing incident, and his response was, "I am not worried about terrorists because God is protecting me.   Obviously I'll keep my eyes and ears open but the Lord is in control".  Steven also states that his running routine is his way of taking care of the physical gift that God has given him and he works diligenly on keeping up with his health.

I wish Steven and the other runners of the Broad Street Run much luck and good running.  It is a beautiful day and the news reports state the the wind is at the back of the runners so there should be some good running times.

Maybe I should consider training for this event for next year?  Run, Run, Run ............
Maybe not...SMOOCHES...
